Consider…
Stuff, things, possessions, gatherings, et cetera, like wealth, are not, in and of themselves, either good or evil. It’s when we allow that which we possess to possess us that becomes a significant problem. Scripture warns us not only to lay aside the sin that clings closely, but also every weight (Heb. 12:1). The implication is to rid ourselves of anything that impedes our growth in grace and obedience to the Lord. Accruing, maintaining, and storing stuff takes up time, space, and money that would be better utilized in Kingdom building.
Pray…
Father, Like the Apostle Paul, let me be content in all circumstances, want or wealth, need or abundance, knowing that You are the source of my strength (Phil. 4:11-13). Remind me that true, eternal treasure is stored up in heaven, not in “barns” (Matt. 6:20, Luke 12:18-21). Help me to trust you to provide my needs, knowing that You are faithful to do so (Matt. 6:33, Luke 12:28).
In Your Son’s name, Amen!
