Consider…
The Lord gave us the necessary ability to notice that which is going on around us. “Being in the moment” is essential. I want whatever we call the mouth doctor performing my root canal to be singularly focused on that task. We all want the drivers with whom we share the road to pay attention to traffic, conditions, limits and restrictions. The last thing on anybody’s commuter wishlist is a fellow motorist checking Instagram while powering through a protein bar. As Christians, our “task at hand”, our Great Commission if you will, is to make disciples (Matt. 28:18-20). Part of that call is to be aware of what is going on around us, physically, culturally, and spiritually. The Apostle Paul made himself a servant to all (1 Cor. 9:19) that he might influence them for the gospel. Jesus himself walked among us, meeting us where we were and showing us the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). Throughout Church history, there have been any number of external responsibilities, influences, pressures, and hardships. Some of these do need our time and attention. It is when the Great Work is put aside by lesser pursuits that we need to objectively examine our priorities. Men, you need to be in a Spirit-led fellowship with other men. Ask them the hard questions and let them give hard answers. Husband, listen to your wife.
Pray…
In the name of Jesus, I ask you Lord to help me walk wisely and redeem the time, for the days are evil (Eph. 5:15-16). Compel me to lay aside anything that hinders Your mission in and through me, and fix my vision on Jesus (Heb. 12:1-2). Increase in me Your love for others (John 3:16).
Amen.
