Consider…
While we are prone to occasional chafing when we are expected or demanded to adhere to a way of doing something that differs from our own, we realize the necessity of standards, instructions, guidelines, rules, and laws. Without them, chaos would ensue. On your morning commute or stroll around your neighborhood, you’ll appreciate traffic laws and certain neighborhood restrictions, so long as you’re not the one violating them! Relationally, cooperation and selflessness (NOT always having our own way) are crucial to success and enjoyment. Jesus is the epitome of others-mindedness, giving himself as the ultimate sacrifice (Phil. 2:5-8). Likewise, as husbands, we are called to lay down our lives for our wives (Eph. 5:25). In doing so, our marriages will thrive in every area of oneness.
Pray…
Lord, by Your Spirit’s power, help me do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, help me value others above myself, looking not only to my own interests, but to the interests of the others. Compel me to do to others as I would have them do to me. Because Jesus Christ laid down his life for me, make me willing to lay down my life for others. (Phil. 2:3-4, Luke 6:31, 1 John 3:16)
