Consider…
The Israelites succumbed to man’s natural inclination to focus on the immediate. They were consumed with their own needs, i.e. the flesh. They quickly forgot about the supernatural work of God to get them where they were, not the least of which was parting the Red Sea, for crying out loud! They weren’t mindful of the faithfulness of God to keep His promises, even when it doesn’t seem like it. More than we want to admit, we can be just like them. But as Christians, we have similarly been redeemed from past bondage. We may fondly look back on the lives we lived as unbelievers, conveniently forgetting the cost in health problems, strained relationships, employment issues, and financial struggles to name a few. Most importantly, we were dead in our sins and alienated from God (Eph. 2:1).
Pray…
My Lord, Your word tells me that in this world, there will be tribulation. But it also says that in Jesus, I may have peace, that You have overcome the world (John 16:33). Saturate me in the truth that I am more than a conqueror; nothing will separate me from Your love (Rom. 8:37-39), and that You will never leave me nor forsake me (Deut. 31:6). Increase my hope in You, knowing my strength will be renewed and I will soar on wings like eagles when I do, that I will run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint (Isa. 40:31). Thank You that in Christ, all of Your promises are yes and amen, for Your glory (2 Cor. 1:20)!
