So there I was, simply living my life and minding my own business, and I heard something about “Pokémon Go”. When my kids were much younger, I remember the Pokémon craze, but I thought the cards were only collected, traded, bought and sold. Come to find out, much to my dismay and bewilderment, that people, not just kids mind you, met with other like-minded nerds, er… folks, and played some kind of game with them. And as if that weren’t enough, there was a Pokémon animated show, of which I watched about three and a half minutes and the ensuing affect on my cerebral cortex was akin to eating a talent (look in your Bible) of lead-based paint chips. But eventually, and mercifully, Pokémon went the way of Earth® Shoes, bubble gum chewing tobacco, disk cameras, and CB radios (good buddy). Or so I thought.
Fast forward to the last couple of days, I not only heard more about the revived Pokémon phenomenon but found out that it is an app for your smart phone. Now bear with me as I explain all I know about the app, which is WAY more than I want to know. Apparently, you try to find cartoon “people” with ridiculous names with your phone. So right away you’re thinking, “Hey, how many young kids have smart phones?” Well, they all do, but that’s neither here nor there. Come to discover, based on news stories about people getting robbed and crashing their cars while using the Pokémon Go app, adults are “playing” this “game”. IN THE NAME OF EVERYTHING THAT IS SACRED, CUT IT OUT! Go back to Starbucks and finish working on your memoirs, “Fear and Hackysacking on the Quad”. As if we needed another distraction while walking, working, or operating heavy machinery. Hopefully, this will have the shelf-life of a leftover 7 layer Taco Bell burrito and be tossed with haste into the dumpster fire of history, figuratively speaking. Because when we stand before the Lord, and we will, I’m fairly certain He won’t query us about how many peekaboos, or whatever those things are called, we caught.
