Consider…
Our eyes are simply instruments through which we gather data. As such, they do not consider, reason, judge, assess, or condemn. While we can improve our sight by wearing glasses or undergoing medical procedures, our eyes can still play “tricks” on us. This phenomenon is known as an optical illusion; what we perceive differs from reality. Even when we see, hear, smell, taste, or feel something accurately, our impression, interpretation, or perception may be skewed. An operating system can only respond according to how it has been programmed. Similarly, our minds process data based on our own knowledge, experience, or beliefs. We may have irrational fears or misplaced trust. Past or present influences in our lives can dictate how we respond or act. Therefore, it is vital to frame the images our eyes capture with Truth. More broadly, and importantly, the data we are constantly absorbing must be filtered through that which is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy. (Phil. 4:8).
Pray…
Gracious Father, You are the lamp for my feet and light on my path (Psa. 119:105), that I may know where I am and where I am heading. Sanctify me by the truth; Your word is truth (John 17:17). Help me to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Cor. 5:7). Give me wisdom (James 1:5) and teach me all things I need to know (John 14:26). Finally, I pray that the eyes of my heart may be enlightened in order that I may know the hope to which You have called me, the riches of Your glorious inheritance in Your holy people, and Your incomparably great power for me who believes (Eph. 1:18-19).
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Fun Factoid…
The only recorded guillotine execution in North America north of the Caribbean took place on the French island of St. Pierre in 1889, of Joseph Néel, with a guillotine brought in from Martinique. The more you know!
