Consider…
From the L.A. Times, dated October 1, 1999: “NASA lost its $125-million Mars Climate Orbiter because spacecraft engineers failed to convert from English to metric measurements when exchanging vital data before the craft was launched, space agency officials said Thursday.” This is a glaring and costly example of what happens when there are differing terms used in relation to a common entity, in this case a mission to Mars. And how great is it that we are one of the few nations to eschew the metric system? USA! USA! USA! There are significant ramifications when truth is relative, relegated to opinion, feeling, or misunderstanding. We all need truth by which to govern our lives. Pontius Pilate, a governor under Emperor Tiberius, asked Jesus, “What is truth?” Ironically, he was staring into the eyes of truth (John 14:6). Truth is a person, and His word is truth. It is absolute, unchanging, timeless, and universal (Heb. 13:8). It is what we need to complete us and equip us for every good work (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
Prayer…
My God, Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and Your law is truth (Psa. 119:142). Sanctify me by Your word, which is truth (John 17:17). Empower me to not yield to the world, the flesh, or the devil, so that the truth of the gospel will remain in me (Gal. 2:5). I know that You are making all things new, because Your word is faithful and true (Rev. 21:5).
In Your Son’s name, Amen.
